HRH.the is the conceptual persona of UK artist Hester Reeve. Her practice encompasses live art, philosophy, drawing and photography. Art is not viewed as a straightforward tool of communication, more as a complex kingdom that is continually attempting to establish itself through human thought and action.
She has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic) and an MA in the Philosophy of Nature (Lancaster University).
The artist has shown live works both nationally and internationally for 15 years, venues range from former Randolph Street Gallery (Chicago), Hull Time Based Arts, LIVE Biennial (Grunt, Vancouver); she was commissioned artist in Manchester's 2005 "The Text Festival" where her 3 month work "Being & Time" won critical acclaim. Most of her works are durational, site-specific and once-only.
Hester Reeve has presented papers and performances at various international conferences including "Between Nature" (Lancaster University, 2000), "BONE 6-Women and Performance" (Bern Culture House, 2003) and "Dialogue" (Philosophisch Politische-Akademie, Berlin, 2005). Her publications include "Art on Terror: the incendiary device of philosophy" (ARTWORDS 05) and she is a regular contributor to 'The Internationaler' ("The Mattering of Philosophy" - interviews investigating the relationship between philosophical reading and artistic agency). Between 1992 and 1996 the artist was based in Prague where she co-authored a 3-year long oral history project, resulting in the publication "Libkovice: Zdaž Buh" (DIVUS Prague, CR 1997).
Hester Reeve lectures in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
